4" Cup Mop Kit
Everything you need to build your own 4" Cupped Sanding Mop. With the addition of a special Cup Adaptor the mop sheets are squeezed into a cup shape, mimicking a cupped wire wheel, but much less aggressive. The Cupped Mop is ideal for sanding inside of bowls, and especially effective for getting into areas cut by a CNC router. While this mop is slightly more specialized due to it's shape, it can still be used to sand anything with detail, while maintaining the integrity of the profile.
One thing to remember about the mop is that speed is the key. The faster you run your mop the better it will work and the longer it will last. 4" Mops need to be spun at a speed between 2000 and 6000 RPM. They will still work when being spun at slower speeds but will not last as long.
How to know which grit(s) to use? Sanding Mop grits available are 80, 120, 180 ,220, & 320. When ordering 2 grits, keep in mind that the most popular combination is the 120 and 220 grit. They are a superior mixture for use on both hardwoods and softwoods. 120g for hardwood, and 220g for softwood.
80 grit - Very aggressive - for rough hardwood, furniture stripping, log home refinishing, patio furniture.
120 grit - Most popular grit for hardwood mouldings, panel doors, turnings, legs. Exceptional performance when used with stabilizers on routered edges.
180 grit - mainly used on MDF, poplar and other medium hardwoods. Excellent grit in production shops for pine.

320 grit - The most substantial time saver when used with spacers for finishing a project. It does all the in-between coat sanding on carvings and even on assembled raised panel doors. Excellent set up grit for polishers.
